IC 1396 - Elephant's Trunk Nebula
The elephant's trunk is a dark, dense dust-gas region that harbors young protostars. It measures over 20 light years in length and is located in the constellation Cepheus. The nebula is a fascinating example of the birth and death of stars. The image was taken with narrow-band filters outside the visible spectrum and converted to the SHO - Hubble palette.
