NGC 2244 - Rosette Nebula

The nebula with the designation NGC 2237, resembling a rose to many, was discovered gradually during the 19th century, and so its different parts gradually received different designations. Inside this beautiful emission nebula is the open star cluster NGC 2244, made up of bright, very young stars, much brighter and more massive than our Sun. The surrounding dust nebula is about 100 light-years across and is located in the constellation Monoceros. It got its red color due to the presence of a large amount of hydrogen.
