NGC 281 - Pacman

NGC 281 is an emission nebula, nicknamed Pacman for its shape. The massive stars in NGC 281 significantly influence the events in their nearby galactic neighborhood. Strong winds from their surfaces and intense radiation heat the surrounding gas, creating large plumes of gas and dust. These structures likely contain newly formed stars.

A forgotten image of the emission nebula aptly named Pacman :-) The image is a composite of photos taken in the visible RGB band and in the H-alpha 12 nm band. The H-alpha image provides a sharp image of the nebula's inner structure and many details. I thank Bíba for his help in processing the RGB and H-alpha composition :-)
