NGC 6888 - The Crescent Nebula
NGC 6888, sometimes called the Crescent Nebula, is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus about 4,700 light-years away. Its impressive shape, which may look different to every observer, was created by the extremely strong stellar wind of the central star WR 136. This star has already shed some of its mass and is likely to go supernova in the future, so today's nebula is a harbinger of another big change. The image was taken with narrowband filters outside the region of the visible spectrum and converted to the HOO palette.
