NGC 6992 - Veil Nebula
NGC 6992, the eastern part of the Veil Nebula, is a fine filament of a large emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus. It lies about 2,000 light-years from Earth and is the remnant of a star that exploded several thousand years ago. The entire complex occupies an area of the sky about six times larger than the full moon, yet it is a single torn envelope from an ancient supernova. The image was taken with narrowband filters outside the region of the visible spectrum and converted to the HOO palette.
